Introducing THE GRASSROOTS GRANITELAND FILM FESTIVAL
Fall 2026
Calling All Skiers, Riders, and Glade Day Enthusiasts!
Do you get absolutely stoked about playing around outdoors?
Do you religiously refresh the Mount Washington higher summit forecast like it’s your personal winter horoscope?
Have you ever looked at your Black Crow skis or your chainsaw chaps and thought, “Someday, kid, you’ll be a star.”
Do you believe GoPros were invented specifically for you?
Did you artistically capture the beauty of a glade day or the speed of the Otto Rhode race and were disappointed when you could only share it via snapchat?
If your answer to any of these is “uh, obviously,” then this is your moment.
We’re on the hunt for short films that capture the wild, wacky, and wonderful world of Granite Backcountry. Whether you’re skiing, booging down at wild corn, or just heroically opening up a new ski line at glade day - document it!
Submissions will open in October 2026 for the opportunity to win fame* and fortune** and have your film shown during the Annual Granite Backcountry Film Festival. More Information on how to submit will be posted on this page in the Fall of 2026.
(*Fame results may vary, and **fortune may include sick gear and trips instead of cash, but bragging rights are guaranteed).GBA Note: fame and fortune are subjective and the scale of such differs on an individual basis and as such your personal definition may not align with GBA’s definition of fame and fortune
How to Enter:
Film it. Ski it, glade it, race it, apres it — whatever your backcountry adventure looks like. While we are asking that all films be related to backcountry skiing and riding, they do not need to only highlight Granite Backcountry zones and events. Show us where your adventures take you!
Edit it. Make your masterpiece no longer than 30 minutes.
Submit it. Upload your film to YouTube, Vimeo, or Google Drive and share the link via our submission form. Note: GBA requests you make the video private / unsearchable until after the film festival.
Deadline: All entries must be submitted in October of 2026, date to be announced in the fall.
Films will be evaluated based on:
Storytelling & creativity (How engaging or original is your perspective?)
Cinematography & editing (How visually or emotionally compelling?)
Adherence to theme (Does it celebrate backcountry recreation or community?)
Ethical & safety standards (Did the filmmaker respect people, land, and rules?)
